This uses a feature "borrowed" from the old Flash game Skyrates: planes have "firing arcs" that light up if another plane is in range.

J, K, L, I: Move (turn/accel/slow)
T: escape maneuver (barrel roll)
A,S,D,F: Improve plane (accel, turn, maxspeed, stall)
W: Turn stormy weather on/off
P: Pause and see plane stats
R: Reset
Z: Delete an enemy plane
C: Toggle cockpit view if the fight is over
